Deep South BBQ Sauce

Even if you are on a diet, sauces almost always get a pass, even those with sugar. This one, used in moderation, goes great with any BBQ dish!

  • Yields: about 7 cups of sauce


11. In a large saucepan over medium heat, mix together all of the wet ingredients, then add the seasonings.

22. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat to low and simmer for at least 20 minutes (or up to an hour), stirring occasionally. The sauce will thicken as it cools.

33. Remove from heat and use as desired. The sauce can also be frozen and used for later!


2 C unsweetened ketchup

2 C unsweetened tomato sauce

1 1/4 C brown sugar

1 1/4 C red wine vinegar

1/2 C unsulphured molasses

2 tbs butter, cut into small pieces

4 tsp hickory flavored liquid smoke

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp chili powder

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp celery seed

1/4 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

1 tsp salt

1 tsp coarsely ground pepper
